ULTRA HDR — SUPPORT
Version 1.1 — build 25

Compatibility

macOS 13 or later. Universal app for Apple Silicon and Intel. Processing requires no Internet connection or additional tool installation. An HDR display and an Ultra HDR-compatible viewer are needed to see extended brightness. The built-in preview depends on the system and display capabilities: a technically valid HDR image may appear as SDR there.

Create and save an image

1. Import the color SDR image using its button, drag and drop, or File → Import Base Image (SDR)… (⌘O).
2. Import the grayscale gain map into the second panel, or use File → Import Gain Map… (⇧⌘O).
3. Both images must have exactly the same pixel dimensions after orientation and rotation. Supported imports: JPEG, PNG, TIFF and HEIC.
4. If needed, rotate each image using its own button. The SDR image respects its EXIF orientation; the gain map keeps its raw orientation. The inversion button affects the gain map only.
5. Adjust maximum boost and gamma. Black = no boost; white = maximum boost; gray = an intermediate value. Settings and imports are locked while encoding.
6. Click Generate HDR Preview (⇧⌘G). The app checks MPF, ISO 21496-1 and validates the output using libultrahdr.
7. Review the preview, then click Save to Disk or use ⌘S. Choose a permanent location. Cancel does not replace a file; macOS asks you to confirm before replacement.

Errors and temporary files

Errors appear in an alert. If the files seem reversed, put the color image on the left and the grayscale map on the right. Generation is disabled if dimensions differ. Temporary previews are cleaned up; your exported files are retained. See the privacy policy for details.

Window, language and appearance

After closing the window, use Window → Show Main Window (⌘1), File → Show Main Window (⌘N), or the app icon in Dock/Finder. FR and EN select the language. The moon/sun button changes the theme; these choices are remembered. Scroll the content when using a small window. V1.1 and Features & Versions open the history page.
